Rolex Day-Date 36 \u201cTapestry Dial\u201d \u2013 Ref. 18038 (1984)<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Rolex Day-Date ref. 18038<\/strong> is one of the defining Day-Date references of the 1980s, combining the traditional 36 mm solid-gold President design with important technical improvements over the earlier ref. 1803. Dating from 1984<\/strong>, this example is particularly attractive thanks to its distinctive Tapestry dial<\/strong>, whose fine vertical texture gives the classic Day-Date design additional depth and character.<\/p>\n

Case<\/h3>\n

The classic Oyster case measures 36 mm<\/strong> and is crafted from 18kt yellow gold<\/strong>, complemented by the signature 18kt yellow-gold fluted bezel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The ref. 18038 belongs to the first generation of Day-Date watches fitted with a sapphire crystal<\/strong>, replacing the acrylic crystal of the preceding ref. 1803. The familiar Cyclops magnifier sits above the date at 3 o\u2019clock.<\/p>\n

Dial<\/h3>\n

The highlight of this 1984 example is its distinctive Tapestry dial<\/strong>, characterized by fine vertical grooves running across its surface. The texture creates a subtle play of light while retaining the restrained and elegant appearance associated with the Day-Date.<\/p>\n

Applied yellow-gold hour markers and matching hands complement the dial, together with the model’s signature full day display at 12 o\u2019clock<\/strong> and date at 3 o\u2019clock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Movement<\/h3>\n

Powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 3055<\/strong>, a COSC-certified chronometer movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fitted with an aftermarket leather strap and aftermarket pin buckle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Condition<\/h3>\n
