Rolex Submariner Date \u2013 Ref. 1680<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Rolex Submariner ref. 1680<\/strong> occupies an important place in the history of the Submariner as the first reference to introduce a date display and Cyclops magnifier<\/strong> to the collection. Produced from the late 1960s through approximately 1979\/80, it combines the unmistakable proportions of a vintage Submariner with the added practicality of a date complication.<\/p>\n

Case<\/h3>\n

The classic stainless-steel Oyster case measures 40 mm<\/strong> in diameter and features crown guards, a screw-down caseback and rotating black diving bezel.<\/p>\n

One of the defining characteristics of the 1680 is its acrylic\/plexiglass crystal with Cyclops magnification<\/strong> over the date. The distinctive raised crystal gives the watch a profile immediately recognizable as vintage Rolex. The reference was originally rated to 200 metres \/ 660 feet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Dial<\/h3>\n

Classic black Submariner dial<\/strong> with luminous hour markers and matching luminous hands, complemented by the date aperture at 3 o’clock.<\/p>\n

Movement<\/h3>\n

Powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 1575<\/strong>, the date-equipped version of the calibre 1570. It operates at 19,800 vibrations per hour<\/strong> and features an instantaneous date change, although the date is not quick-set<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Strap<\/h3>\n

Fitted with an aftermarket leather strap and aftermarket pin buckle<\/strong>, giving the Submariner a more understated vintage appearance.<\/p>\n

Condition<\/h3>\n
