IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph – Ref. IW390210

The IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph ref. IW390210 brings a distinctly sporting character to the traditionally elegant Portugieser family. Its substantial stainless-steel case, black dial and rubber strap are combined with IWC’s manufacture flyback chronograph movement, making this one of the most technically capable early Yacht Club Chronographs. IWC’s own period catalogue confirms the IW390210 in this black-dial, steel-and-rubber configuration.

Case

The stainless-steel case measures 45.4 mm in diameter and 14.5 mm thick. It features a screw-down crown, convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and a sapphire display caseback.

Factory water resistance is 6 bar / 60 metres, reflecting the Yacht Club’s more sporting positioning within the Portugieser collection.

Dial

The black dial retains the characteristic Portugieser aesthetic with applied Arabic numerals while introducing a sportier chronograph layout and luminous elements.

The small seconds are positioned at 6 o’clock, while the unusual totalizer at 12 o’clock combines the chronograph hours and minutes in a single subdial. A red central chronograph seconds hand provides a strong visual accent, while the date is displayed at 3 o’clock.

Movement

Powered by the automatic IWC-manufactured calibre 89361, part of the 89000 calibre family. This integrated chronograph movement offers a flyback function, allowing the chronograph to be reset and immediately restarted with a single operation.

The calibre operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), contains 38 jewels and provides approximately 68 hours of power reserve.

Strap

Fitted with a black rubber strap and original IWC stainless-steel folding clasp. The rubber strap was the factory configuration for the IW390210 and reinforces the more casual, nautical character of the Yacht Club.

Condition

Very nice overall condition with light signs of wear. The movement runs accurately. No service history available.
