The Rolex Day-Date ref. 18038<\/strong>, dating to circa 1983<\/strong>, is a classic example of Rolex’s flagship precious-metal model. Crafted from 18kt yellow gold<\/strong>, this example combines the traditional 36 mm Oyster case and fluted bezel with a striking black dial.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Case<\/h3>\n

The Oyster case is crafted from 18kt yellow gold<\/strong> and measures 36 mm in diameter<\/strong>. It features the characteristic 18kt yellow-gold fluted bezel<\/strong>, screw-down crown and sapphire crystal with Cyclops magnifier over the date.<\/p>\n

The ref. 18038 belongs to the first Day-Date generation to feature a sapphire crystal<\/strong>, replacing the acrylic crystal found on the preceding ref. 1803.<\/p>\n

Dial<\/h3>\n

The black dial<\/strong> provides a strong contrast against the yellow-gold case and features applied yellow-gold hour markers and matching hands.<\/p>\n

The signature Day-Date layout displays the day of the week in full at 12 o’clock<\/strong> and the date at 3 o’clock beneath the Cyclops magnifier.<\/p>\n

Movement<\/h3>\n

Powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 3055<\/strong>, a chronometer-certified movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz)<\/strong> with approximately 48 hours of power reserve<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The calibre 3055 introduced a quick-set date<\/strong>, while the day remains non-quick-set. Its successor, calibre 3155, introduced independent quick-setting of both the day and date.<\/p>\n

Strap<\/h3>\n

Fitted with an aftermarket leather-rubber combination strap<\/strong> and aftermarket buckle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Condition<\/h3>\n

Very nice overall vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with age. The movement runs accurately. No service history available.<\/p>\n
