Rolex Datejust 31 – Ref. 68240 | Black Roman Dial | 1997

Dating to 1997, this Rolex Datejust ref. 68240 combines the versatile 31 mm midsize proportions with an attractive black dial featuring a Roman numeral chapter ring, smooth stainless-steel bezel and classic Oyster bracelet.

Case

The stainless-steel Oyster case measures 31 mm in diameter and is fitted with a smooth polished stainless-steel bezel.

A sapphire crystal protects the dial, incorporating the characteristic Rolex Cyclops magnifier over the date aperture at 3 o’clock.

Dial

The black dial features applied polished baton hour markers surrounded by a distinctive Roman numeral chapter ring around the outer edge.

Luminous plots accompany the hour markers, while polished baton hands with luminous inserts provide excellent contrast against the glossy black background.

The date is displayed at 3 o’clock beneath the Cyclops magnifier.

Movement

Powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 2135, a chronometer-certified movement extensively used by Rolex in its midsize Datejust models of this generation.

The calibre features 29 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides approximately 40–42 hours of power reserve. It features a quick-set date and stop-seconds functionality.

Bracelet

Fitted with a stainless-steel Rolex Oyster bracelet with folding clasp, giving the watch a slightly sportier appearance than the alternative Jubilee-bracelet configuration.

Condition

Very nice overall vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with age. The movement runs accurately after an In-house service in October 2026.
