Rolex Milgauss – Ref. 116400 | Anthracite Grey Dial

The Rolex Milgauss ref. 116400 is one of the most distinctive modern Rolex professional watches, combining the brand’s classic Oyster construction with an unusual scientific heritage. This example features the characteristic anthracite-grey dial with orange accents, orange lightning-bolt seconds hand, clear sapphire crystal and stainless-steel Oyster bracelet.

Originally conceived for professionals working in environments exposed to strong magnetic fields, the Milgauss combines a deliberately understated 40 mm case with several playful design elements that distinguish it from other Rolex professional models.

Case

The stainless-steel Oyster case measures 40 mm in diameter and is fitted with a smooth polished stainless-steel bezel.

A clear sapphire crystal protects the dial. This distinguishes the standard ref. 116400 from the later 116400GV, which is characterized by its green-tinted sapphire crystal.

A defining technical feature of the Milgauss is its internal ferromagnetic shield, designed to protect the mechanical movement against magnetic fields of up to approximately 1,000 gauss—the origin of the model’s name, combining mille (one thousand) and gauss.

Dial

The watch features a distinctive anthracite-grey dial with applied polished hour markers filled with luminous material.

Bright orange rectangular accents positioned around the outer minute track provide a striking contrast against the dark grey background and are complemented by the orange “MILGAUSS” signature beneath the Rolex branding.

The defining visual feature is the unmistakable orange lightning-bolt central seconds hand, a modern interpretation of the lightning-shaped seconds hand associated with the historic Milgauss.

Polished baton hour and minute hands with luminous inserts complete the display.

The absence of a date aperture preserves the symmetry of the dial and emphasizes the clean, functional character of the watch.

Movement

The watch is powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 3131, a chronometer-certified movement developed for the antimagnetic requirements of the modern Milgauss.

The calibre features 31 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides approximately 48 hours of power reserve.

Bracelet

Fitted with the original stainless-steel Rolex Oyster bracelet, featuring the classic three-piece solid-link construction.

The bracelet is equipped with a folding Oysterclasp and Rolex’s Easylink comfort extension system, allowing a small adjustment in bracelet length without tools.

Condition

Very nice overall condition with light signs of wear. The movement runs accurately. No service history available.
