Rolex Cellini “Wood Dial” – Ref. 4127

The Rolex Cellini ref. 4127 is an unusual and highly distinctive vintage dress watch, combining an architectural rectangular case with one of Rolex’s more exotic dial materials. This example is crafted in 18kt yellow gold and features a beautiful natural wood dial, giving every example a subtly unique grain and appearance. Period examples confirm that Rolex offered the reference with genuine wood dials.

Case

The rectangular 18kt yellow-gold case measures approximately 33 × 24 mm, with a very slim profile of around 6 mm. The wide bezel features the distinctive geometric Clous de Paris / hobnail pattern, contrasting with the clean lines of the case and concealed-style lugs.

Dial

The defining feature is the natural wood dial, displaying the individual grain and tonal variations of the material. Period examples have been described specifically as burlwood or mahogany, although I would simply use “wood dial” unless the exact wood species of your particular watch is documented.

Applied yellow-gold baton indexes and matching hands keep the display exceptionally clean, with only hours and minutes shown.

Movement

Powered by the manual-winding Rolex calibre 1601, a slim 19-jewel mechanical movement particularly well suited to the slender Cellini case. Documented examples of ref. 4127 consistently confirm calibre 1601.

The movement operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 46 hours of power reserve.

Strap

Fitted with its original Rolex leather strap and original 18kt yellow-gold Rolex pin buckle.

This is also a documented period-correct configuration for the wood-dial ref. 4127; surviving examples are known with their original Rolex leather straps and solid-gold buckles.
