Submariner Date

Rolex Submariner Date – Ref. 1680

The Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 occupies an important place in the history of the Submariner as the first reference to introduce a date display and Cyclops magnifier to the collection. Produced from the late 1960s through approximately 1979/80, it combines the unmistakable proportions of a vintage Submariner with the added practicality of a date complication.

Case

The classic stainless-steel Oyster case measures 40 mm in diameter and features crown guards, a screw-down caseback and rotating black diving bezel.

One of the defining characteristics of the 1680 is its acrylic/plexiglass crystal with Cyclops magnification over the date. The distinctive raised crystal gives the watch a profile immediately recognizable as vintage Rolex. The reference was originally rated to 200 metres / 660 feet.

Dial

Classic black Submariner dial with luminous hour markers and matching luminous hands, complemented by the date aperture at 3 o’clock.

Movement

Powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 1575, the date-equipped version of the calibre 1570. It operates at 19,800 vibrations per hour and features an instantaneous date change, although the date is not quick-set.

Strap

Fitted with an aftermarket leather strap and aftermarket pin buckle, giving the Submariner a more understated vintage appearance.

Condition

Very nice overall vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with age. The movement runs accurately. In house revision August,2026.
